StairCycle Safety Precautions
Congratulations on your purchase of the StairCycle™. As with any bike or exercise device, we would like you to be aware of potential problems that could occur or may result in a harmful accident. 1.) Always wear protective clothing in case of fall to minimize injury. An approved helmet is much better than no helmet at all! 2.) StairCycle™ is a moving vehicle and is therefore subject to all laws applicable in your state for bicycles or motor vehicles. Failure to observe these laws can result in fines or injury. 3.) StairCycle™ is made from many mechanical parts that can loosen or wear over extended time. Please check all fittings to make sure they are tight before riding. 4.) StairCycle™ has front and rear brakes. As with most moving vehicles, the front brakes carry more stopping power than the rear. Over use of the front brake may result in a loss of control of the StairCycle™. Please use brakes evenly. Improper usage or wear can cause you to lose control and fall. 5.) Check for wear of the front brake pads. They will wear out over time. If you do not want to replace them yourself, take the StairCycle™ to your nearest bike shop for service. 6.) If you notice a shimmy, or steering wobble while riding the StairCycle™, slow down and take it to your nearest bicycle repair shop for adjustment. 7.) Do not modify the frame, forks, or headset of the StairCycle™. Modifications to these components can result in failure and loss of control. 8.) The front wheel of the StairCycle™ uses a quick release system with a quick release lock lever. If the locklever is not adjusted properly, the wheel can become loose causing you to fall. Inspect the wheel for wobble and make sure the locklever is engaged properly. 9.) The StairCycle™ uses a Shimano 8 speed internally geared hub. It requires very little maintenance. Please do not attempt to service yourself. Take the StairCycle™ to your nearest dealer for proper adjustment. 10.) The Shimano 8 speed hub nuts need to be checked periodically for proper adjustment. Check the back wheel to make sure the wheel is tight with no wobble. This same adjustment will also determine the slack in the main chain drive. Please take the StairCycle™ to your nearest dealer for proper adjustment. 11.) Improperly adjusted air pressure in the tires can cause steering difficulty and an unstable ride. Fill tires to proper pressure using a manual pump as gas station or other compressor type pumps may cause the tire to fill too rapidly and may causethe tire to burst. 12.) Improper assembly or components can place undo stress on your StairCycle™ or components causing failure and possible injury. Before changing any component, Please consult your StairCycle™ dealer. 13.) The pedal lockdown device is included on the StairCycle™ for your convenience. Improper use of this device can result loss of control and fall. Make sure the device is fully "ON" or "OFF" by using the twist grip function on the left side of the handlebars. After mounting the StairCycle™, with both feet on the pedals, use the twist grip and twist fully in the direction of "OFF". The pedals should now freely move under your feet. If only one pedal moves and the other is locked, then press on the locked pedal and then twist the grip and turn again toward the "OFF" position. If this does not resolve the issue, then please contact StairCycle™ for remedy. 14.) The locking procedure is the opposite of the unlocking procedure. While coasting to a stop, twist the locking device twist grip to the "ON" position whether the pedals are up or down. As the pedal comes to its most downward position, the lock levers should engage and keep the pedals down. As you dismount the StairCycle™, be aware that if the pedal did not engage, the pedal will want to raise to its natural upright position and cause you to lose balance and fall. It is suggested that you engage the lockdown device while coasting to a stop well in advance so that you can verify the lock engagement. Please refer to the enclosed DVD for complete instructions and training for the lockdown device. 15.) It is important that you keep your feet on the pedals at all times as the pedals will naturally want to be in the highest position when there is an absence of weight on the pedals. If one of your feet comes off during cycling, maintain balance, slow down and put your foot back on the pedal. Please refer to the DVD for proper riding techniques demonstrated fully. 16.) The StairCycle™ is equipped with an adjustable handlebar set. Failure to adjust or tighten properly may cause loss of control and possible injury. Please refer to the DVD for proper adjusting techniques. 17.) The StairCycle™ is an exercise and transportation vehicle. It is advised that before undergoing strenuous exercise that you consult a physician for a complete physicial examination |
